About
Oke Idanre rises dramatically above the town of Idanre. The hills contain the remains of the old settlement, including the former palace, shrines, old court, belfry, burial grounds and other cultural landmarks.
History & Cultural Significance
For centuries, the Idanre people lived on the hills before moving to the settlement below in the early 20th century.
The mountain therefore functions as both a natural landmark and a cultural archive. Festivals and traditional ceremonies continue to connect contemporary Idanre communities with the old settlement.
